Microsoft didn’t design the iPod. Thank God!

Found this funny video on youtube, and as Loyal as I am to Microsoft I had to agree. I never really noticed it until this video, but it’s true, Microsoft smother their packaging with so much crap it’s not funny.

The video really is a laugh though, I really enjoyed it :)

Sun Tzu’s Art Of War

I don’t know if you’ve read it, but I have and I think it’s really beneficial to anyone who likes stimulating their inner strategist.

I play StarCraft, so naturally I really like strategy type stuff.

When I came across Sun Tzu’s Art Of War, I realised that these rules defined by Sun Tzu can actually be applied to many strategic contexts. Surprisingly, quite a large amount of the book can be applied to StarCraft. It has actually been mentioned on top StarCraft community sites, that reading Sun Tzu’s Art Of War is a good method of improving your strategic approach. And I believe that it can also be applied to almost anything that requires strategic planning.
Anyway, an old yet good read. Here’s an electronic version of the book:

Interface Lift

So I’ve found a pretty cool site. A site where they have a nice large amount of hi-res wallpapers, mostly scenic, that lets you pick the resolution, including widescreen resolutions!!

They also have a section for themes, and software for theming windows or osx

From the software section I particularly like the program miniMIZE!

With this program running, minimized windows are thumbnails on the desktop rather than tasks in the task bar, pretty neat.

So check it out: http://www.interfacelift.com

proxiteam popularity soaring!

[Administrator's note 1/8/2008: One should note, this post is very old, none of these links should be expected to work now]

…And you’ll notice my website proxiteam.com has had around 16 thousand page views this month.

That’s alot, for a gaming team’s website, incase you didn’t know.

You’ll notice alot of my site’s stats increased during May 06.

This is probably because my team was advertised as a quality team, by Entropy, a well-known news reporter at pgtour.net, which is currently the most popular public ladders for StarCraft.

Giggidy giggidy, I think we’re popular ^_^

What’s the time? Oh about 0100:001110

It was a while ago, but I’ll post about it now. When I was getting the road worthy cert for my car, they told me to wait in their lounge area (this was at ferntree gully holden)I sat down, somewhat bored and looking for something to occupy my mind. There was a desk with a few magazines on it and recent newspapers. I picked up the sunday newspaper and noticed a gizmos and gadgets section! “YES!”Upon opening it, something remarkably simple yet cool caught my attention. A binary watch!Designed obviously to confuse and bewilder the mind of the average person, this watch is aimed quite clearly at those in the computer science feild. Awesome gadget :D It comes equipped with 10 bright blue LEDs, 4 for the hours and 6 for the minutes. The case and back are stainless steel with a water resistence of about 90 feet. The band is genuine leather.Anyway here’s a pic of it in all its sexy glory:Only bad thing about this is probably the price.I didn’t expect the fact that it is binary to affect the price that much. But either the brand must be good, or the watch is awesome quality, or they’re just ripping people off.You wont get this particular watch for less than $199.00. At least not from tesora.com, where it was linked to from the paper.Maybe when I’ve got $200 to waste I’ll get it. But for now it will just have to be a fantasy.Maybe I’m just cheap but I would expect to buy a watch like this for about $100. Some smelly chinese factory probably pumps thousands of em out for like 10c each, or maybe not. Either way I think the pricing is too steep, just my opinion.Purchase or read more at: http://tesora.com

Vista = thx!

I found some really good vista screenshots tonight.

It’s taken a while but I finally found some which show a clear demonstration of some of the drastic changes in user interface from xp to vista! thanks to winsupersite.com
The following is probably the best gallery there:

But you’ll find more good stuff here:

Sigh… I sure would like vista :P

On winsupersite they say that vista will run fine on a 3GHz P4, or the recent Dual Core processors for desktop PCs, or a 1.86Ghz Pentium M processor for notebooks. That happens to be exactly the processor in my Dell 6000!

Ram wise, microsoft hints a 512mb requirement but it’s a low one. They say at winsupersite that if you want to get the most out of vista, 1GB of ram will be well put to use. Again, that is exactly the amount of ram in my Dell 6000 :)

However, although 128mb non-integraded video is apparantly adequate for higher resolutions with vista, Thurott (of winsupersite) recommends a 256mb card. Mine is the ATI Radeon x300 128MB, so I shouldn’t have too much problem. But if possible, I will upgrade to 256mb if that’s what I need to experience the benefits of the sexy new Aero interface.

As for the hard disk? Not a big change, but it is recommended that the speed of your hard disk is on-par with recent technology. My notebook has a 7200rpm HDD which is pretty good for notebooks at the moment I think. For desktops you’ll want a 10,000rpm hard disk.

Conclusion: If you wanna get the best of vista, you’ll want:

A desktop with:
3GHz P4 or equiv.
1GB RAM
128MB or 256MB Video Card – Non integrated chipset

Or a notebook with:
1.86GHz Pentium M or equiv.
1GB RAM
128MB or 256MB Video Card – Non integrated chipset

You can see winsupersite’s article about buying a vista system here: buying a vista system
Vista looks like it will be a nice looking operating system. We must all admit, we like things to look good. So although the next version of windows may lack additional functional features, at least they’ll make up for it in the crisp new interface :)

Team_PSD Shirt!

A while ago it was discussed by my course team that we would have a team shirt developed! This excited me, and with digital imagery being an interest of mine I decided to have a shot at designing a logo:(this image was removed during a re-migrate… sorry)Today it was brought to my attention that the shirt was finally being discussed. My lecturer for APS thinks it needs some colour, BUT DAMMIT! Andrew I think you need to get your geek on and start thinking in binary like the rest of us! 1 and 0, black and white, it’s PERFECT!Don’t get me wrong, if my logo isn’t used I’m not gonna suicide, but I would definately love to see my work put to good use ^_^

First Post

OK so after being convinced by my APS (Algorithmic Problem Solving) lecturer, I’ve decided to take up writing a blog.

I don’t know exactly what will appear here. Probably a heap of miscellaneous stuff, or just anything I feel many people should know about!

I’ve made a page about myself, so just incase you didn’t know much about me you can find some info on the ‘About’ page.

I hope my blog can prove useful to some people, and I will try to update it as often as I can.
Thanks for taking the time to make an occasional visit :)
